Julia "Louise" (Johnson) Broyles

Julia “Louise” Broyles, 92, of Gosport, Indiana passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital following a brief illness.

Louise was born April 20, 1925 in Banks, Arkansas to the late William Daniel Asbury Johnson and Lillian Irene Frizzell Johnson. She spent her early years in Hardin, Texas. She spent her teenage years in Fredrick, Oklahoma where she met her late husband, Melville Marson Broyles, while he was stationed at Fredrick Oklahoma Air Force Base. They were married March 3, 1944 in Fredrick, OK. Louise resided in Gaston, Zionsville, and Gosport.  She earned her Bachelors’ degree in Nursing and Master’s degree in Hospital Administration from Indiana University. Louise retired from nursing in the early 90’s. She attended Bible Missionary Church. She enjoyed writing poetry and reading.

Louise is survived by her son, James M. Broyles (wife Kathryn); grandchildren, Timothy (wife Suzzi), James E. (wife Charity), David (wife Regina), Michelle (husband Robert), Brandi (husband Chuck), Angela (husband Bert), and Robyn (husband Joel); 21 great- grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Ronald E. Broyles; and brothers, Nelson Johnson, Spencer Johnson, and Garland Johnson.

A funeral service to celebrate Louise’s life will be held 1:00 P.M. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St., Gaston, IN. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Friday at the Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.
