James E. Mauck, 89, of Gaston, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at his home in Gaston.
Jim was born on October 13, 1934, in Summitville, Indiana to the late Harley and Effie Mauck. He was a 1952 graduate of Gaston High School. Jim’s passion was agriculture; he achieved his lifelong dream to farm with his sons and now grandsons. Jim’s love and dedication to the greater Gaston community was obvious as he served 16 years on the Wes-Del school board, 60 years for Gaston Lions Club, Delaware County Farm Bureau Board, National Farmers Organization, National Farmers Union, Delaware County Drainage Board, and sold Pioneer Seed for decades. Jim was a loving and generous man and was looked up to as a surrogate father and grandfather to many. Outside of his row crop and livestock duties, he enjoyed golfing with his farmer buddies and competing in tractor pulls with his Minneapolis Molines. We are all going to miss Jim, but his morning presence at The Mill Street Inn will be sorely felt.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Mike Mauck (Connie) and David Mauck (Gina); a daughter-in-law, Beverly Mauck (Dennis Cunningham) a sister, Lois McClurg (Edgar), two brothers-in-law, Jerry Pittenger and Charles Kirtley (Betty); seven grandchildren, Melissa Butler (Brad), Jason Mauck (Kortnee), Nick Mauck, Neil Mauck (Britany), McKenzie Mauck (Ryan), Kelsie Morris (Jordan) and Ella Mauck; a grandson in heart, Kurt Thomas; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his Jack Russell, Jackie.
Jim was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Mauck; a son, William Mauck; two sisters, Norma Jean Kirtley and Barbara Martini: parents-in-law, William and Marie Pittinger; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Pittenger and brother-in-law Dale Martini.
A funeral service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Prairie Grove Christian Church, 16775 N County Road 775 W in Gaston. Paster Brian Wise will officiate. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, April 1, 2024, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Prairie Grove Christian Church.
