Max W. Couch, 86, fell into the arms of his Savior on April 16, 2019 at Westminster Village in Muncie. Max was born June 14, 1932 in Fairmount, Indiana to the late Verlie and Lora (Jones) Couch. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1950. He married Shelby Smith on May 28, 1955. In 1958 they moved to Converse where they adopted their daughter Ramona. In 1962 they moved to Swayzee and in 1965 adopted their second child, Roger. Then in 1968 Greg was born into their growing family.
Max was a United States Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Herbst United Methodist Church in Swayzee. Max retired from Fisher Body (General Motors) in 1995 after almost 40 years as a tool and die maker. Just before retirement Max built a workshop attached to their home in Swayzee where he spent countless hours building many pieces of beautiful furniture for family and friends. He was an amazing supporter and provider for his family and demonstrated this his entire life including providing wonderful loving care his wife required during most of their retirement years.
Max is survived by his three children, Ramona Ogle (husband Steve) of Camden, Roger Couch (wife Denise) of Galveston, and Greg Couch of Anderson; four grandchildren, Mark Ogle of Delphi, Mary Davis (husband Jay) of Delphi, Christy Wills (husband Andrew) of Noblesville, and Ben Couch of Anderson; two great-grandsons, Gage and Gabriel Davis of Delphi; several nieces and nephews and a devoted brother-in-law, Voyne Smith (wife Elaine) of Gaston.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sisters Irene Workman (husband George) and Mildred Wagoner (husband Clarence) and granddaughter, Megan Ogle.
A funeral service to celebrate Max’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, April 19, 2019, at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston, Indiana with Pastor Jeremy Moore officiating. Burial will take place in Matthews Cemetery in Matthews Indiana.
Visitation for friends and family to gather, share and remember will also be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Herbst United Methodist Church, 2561 S. 600 W., Marion, IN 46953.
