Shirley A. McKibben, 80, of Muncie, passed away peacefully July 26, 2018, at Parker Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born May 2, 1938 in Perkinsville, Indiana to the late Kenneth and Mary Louise (Lennis) Carson. Shirley was raised in Yorktown, IN and graduated in 1956 from Yorktown High School. Shirley’s greatest passions were her faith, family and advocating for children. Her life epitomized her values of honesty, integrity and kindness. Her career as a registrar at Muncie Southside High School enabled her to touch many lives while fulfilling her dreams. Shirley was also an avid sports fan. She followed high school, college, and professional basketball and participated in numerous bowling leagues with her family and coworkers. While raising her children and grandchildren, Shirley enjoyed many summer weekends boating on the lakes of Indiana. Following retirement, Shirley and Paul spent the winter months in Florida.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Paul McKibben, her parents, Kenneth and Mary Louise (Lennis) Carson and her sisters, Sue (James) Winkle and Sherry (Steve) Schlegel.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Jenny (David) Fuller, her children, Kendra (Mark) Engle, Gregory (Sandy) McKibben, Douglas (Teresa) McKibben, and Beth (Steve) Harrison; 8 grandchildren, Andrew McKibben, Jennifer (McKibben) Zike, Lauren (McKibben) Edwards, Jesse Engle, Leslie (Engle) Caliz, Ali Harrison, Erin (McKibben) Wilson, and Joel Harrison; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 31, at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St., Yorktown, IN. Pastor Kyle Holt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Yorktown Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember two hours prior to service from 12 noon until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF), 1209 W. Riggin Rd., Muncie, IN 47303.
