Alma Louise (Thompson) Hardesty

 Alma Louise (Thompson) Hardesty, 97, of Gaston, Indiana, passed away on Monday morning at 2:15 A.M. on April 16, 2018 at Signature Health Care in Muncie.

Alma was born on February 19, 1921, the middle daughter, to the late David Johnathan Oren Thompson and Delpha May (Loveless) Wardwell on her grandma and grandpa Loveless’ farm northwest of Yorktown. Alma spent her life in Marion, Madison, Delaware, and Jay counties. She retired in 1987 from Ball Memorial Hospital after 30 plus years of service. Alma was a wonderful mother, always putting her children first. She attended Agape Fellowship Church for a number of years under Pastor Elden Morehouse. Alma loved to make quilts and play euchre, skip-bo, and bingo. She enjoyed reading and read 5 to 10 books a week. She also enjoyed the getaways she took with Dorothy Ice. She always gave to her church and other charitable groups as well. She especially supported veteran groups since both of her sons and her son-in-law served in the military.

Alma is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ilene Norrick (husband Dave) of Muncie / Myrtle Beach, SC; one of her sons, Richard Laverne Hardesty of Muncie; a daughter-in-law, Pat Hardesty of Fruitland, FL; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Alma was preceded in death by both of her parents; a son, Dennis Hardesty; and two sisters, Mildred Elizabeth Murray of Elwood and Sena May Reynolds of Speedway.

A funeral service to celebrate Alma’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston. Alma’s youngest son, Richard Hardesty will conduct her service. Cremation will follow with burial of her ashes in Jones Cemetery at a later date.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 20, 2018 and also one hour prior to her service on Saturday at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.
