Benjamin Martin Obituary

Benjamin F. Martin, 81, of Selma, Indiana passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.

 

Ben was born on June 17, 1939 in Washington Parish, Louisiana to the late Hollie and Viola (Cook) Martin. He was a 1957 graduate of Pine High School in Louisiana. Ben was an Air Force Vietnam veteran. He worked for Bell Telephone Company for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Ben attended Burlington Avenue Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with family, reading his bible, and sharing his faith.

 

Ben is survived by his wife, Kay (Knollman) Martin; four sons, Michael Martin (wife Barbara) of Greentown, Benjamin Martin (wife Susan) of Sheridan, Scott Martin (wife Susan) of Whitestown, and Greg Martin (wife Melissa) of Selma; step-daughter, Shawna Weaver (husband Michael) of Albany; 11 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Alexandra, Jacob, Benjamin “Eli”, Shannie, Jessica, Kristen, Brooklyn, Breannah, Braxton, and Brayden Martin; two step-grandchildren, Katelyn and Alli Weaver; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Beverly (Sewell) Martin; and nine siblings.

 

A funeral service to celebrate Ben’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at East Street Congregational Church, 128 N. East St., Winchester, IN 47394. His nephew, Pastor Kelley Sewell, will officiate. Burial of Ben’s ashes will take place in Lawndale Cemetery in Ridgeville at a later date.

 

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at East Street Congregational Church in Winchester.
