Betty L. Leek, 92, of Yorktown, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Betty was born on October 23, 1928 in Keensburg, Illinois to the late Jesse and Mary (Butler) Smallwood. Betty graduated from Keensburg High School. She married Bryce J. Leek on August 12, 1949 and was married 30 years before his death in 1979. Betty was a homemaker and attended the Compass Church of Yorktown. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, sewing and quilting, and boating and swimming. Betty loved animals, especially her cats.
Betty is survived by four children, Sandra Dixon (husband Mark) of Garland, NC, Rose Marie Richardson (Husband Greg) of Gaston, Lita Koenig (husband Richard) of Cape Coral, FL, and Jay Leek (wife Robin) of Huntington; sister, Dorothy Ligon of Mt. Carmel, IL; nine grandchildren, Renee Macrellis (husband James) of Garland, NC, Lukas Dixon of Garland, NC, Andrea Smith (husband Brian) of Yorktown, Greg Richardson (wife Sarah) of Gaston, Tony Johnson (wife Jessie) of Lebanon, TN, Todd Koenig (wife Michelle) of Cape Coral, FL, Heather Everhart (husband Scott) of Estero, FL, Bryce Leek of Huntington, and Derek Leek (wife Samantha) of Huntington; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Latham, Mary Rigg, and Jane Bratton; and a grandson, Christopher Dixon.
A graveside service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 PM CST Monday, January 25, 2021 at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1836 College Dr., Mt. Carmel, IL 62863. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
