Carroll L. Bennett

Carroll L. Bennett, 78, of Gaston, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Carroll was born May 1, 1938 in Gaston, Indiana to the late Charles and Edith Bennett. Carroll was a lifelong resident of Gaston, graduating from Gaston High School in 1957. He was a United States Army veteran. Carroll worked for Marhoefer Meats for over 20 years and retired from General Motors in 2000. He was a member of the Anthony Masonic Lodge #171, The Indianapolis Scottish Rite, and the Chapter E Motorcycle Club.

Carroll is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Zelma Bennett; four children, Brent Kelley (wife Lori) of Gaston, Lynette Neal-Kelley of Daleville, Marcia Heinzen of Matthews, and Troy Kelley of Lakeland, FL; eight grandchildren, Chad Robbins, Jon Neal, Jerry Neal, Sarah Heinzen, Stephanie Walpole, Kayla Harmon, Garrett Kelley, and Sean Kelley; 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Carroll was preceded in death by his brother Bob Bennett; and two sisters, Dorothy Tudor and Donna Wallen.

A funeral service to celebrate Carroll’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 7, 2016, at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston, IN. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 6, 2016 and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Sunday.

Carroll’s family would like to specially thank Gaston Fire and Rescue for their care and kindness. Memorial contributions may be given to the Gaston Fire Dept. at 105 N. Sycamore St., Gaston, IN 47342.
