Charles Evans Jr.

Charles Evans Jr., 99, of Muncie, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Charlie was born on July 29, 1923, in Delaware County, Indiana to the late Charles and Gertrude Evans. Charlie was a 1942 graduate of Muncie Central High School and completed an apprenticeship in printing. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the European Theater in WWII where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Charlie retired from the Muncie Star & Press in 1991 after 52 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Charlie was a good man.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peg; five children, Rebecca Johnson (John) of Muncie, Debbie Danner Houser (James) of St. Augustine, FL, Diane Dabbs of Muncie, Darlene Self (Steve, deceased) of Leeds, AL, and David Charles Evans (Gail) of Easley, SC; a brother, Jim Evans of Muncie; ten grandchildren, great-grandchildren.  He is predeceased by wife and mother of Rebecca, Anna Mae, and nine siblings.

A memorial service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 7, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Dave Warren will officiate.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Monday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
