Charles A. McCurdy

Charles A. McCurdy, 85, of Matthews, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Indianapolis surrounded by family after losing his courageous battle with cancer.

Charles was born January 11, 1932 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the late Sweeney and Annebelle (Davis) McCurdy. He married Nellie (Becktell) McCurdy in 1954. He was a factory worker who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had been a member of the Matthews Civil Defense.

Charles is survived by his three daughters, Ronnetta Aguilar (husband Amadeo) of Indianapolis, Nellie Conway (husband Jimmy) of Cloverdale, and Sabrina Smith of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Aarika Jimenez and Ethan Smith; five great-grandchildren, Alex Mora, Kristain Jimenez, Moises Jimenez, Delylah Jimenez, and Aariana Jimenez; siblings, Henry McCurdy, Geneva Shoemaker, and Rosie Shoemaker; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Nellie (Becktell) McCurdy; two brothers, James McCurdy and Bud McCurdy; sister, Mary Smith; and great-granddaughter Reina.

A funeral service to celebrate Charles’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. Burial will follow in Matthews Cemetery.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to aid the family in unexpected funeral costs, in care of Gant Funeral Homes, 2215 S. Broadway St., Yorktown, IN 47396.
