Charles Roy Newman

Charles Roy Newman, 68, of Yorktown, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Charles was born on August 10, 1954, in Muncie to the late Philip and Donna Newman. He was a 1972 graduate of Yorktown High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in education in English and Science from Ball State University. Charles retired in 1991 from teaching at Yorktown High School where he also coached track, cross country, and freshman basketball. After retirement he spent time working at U-Haul and Comcast. Charles was a member of the Yorktown United Methodist Church where he had served as trustee in the past. Charles loved watching, participating, and coaching sports. He found great joy in reaching and helping children with his gifts and talents.

Charles is survived by two sisters, Susan Williams and Linda Riley; a brother, David Newman (wife Rebecca); and several nieces, nephews, and valued friends.

Charles was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Newman.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember over pizza at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Yorktown Pizza King, 1911, Tiger Dr. in Yorktown.

Charles’ family will hold a memorial service in Florida at a later date.
