Danny "Joe" Armstrong

Danny “Joe” Armstrong, 77, of Gaston, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his home in Gaston.

Joe was born on December 17, 1946, in Muncie to the late Cecil and Olive Armstrong. He was a 1965 graduate of Gaston High School. Joe served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he earned a Bronze Star. He married Linda Hiatt on April 29, 1972. Joe owned and operated Armstrong Heating and Cooling for over 50 years. He served as past Commander of both the Gaston Legion and the Delaware County Veteran’s Association. He was also a member of the Fairmount American Legion and the Muncie VFW. Joe enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and bird watching.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Armstrong; sister, Mary Anderson; 11 nieces and nephews, Kathy Stephenson, Joe Stephenson (wife Glenda), Gerry Stephenson (wife Vickie), Terry Pond (wife Deana), Gary Pond, Sonja Compton, Jody Hiatt (wife Shine), Shelley Miller (husband Ivan), Robert Anderson, Rob Anderson; Randy Smith (wife Judy);sister-in-law, Joyce Hiatt; niece-in-law, Roxie Hiatt; dear friend and cousin, Vickie Armstrong; and many great nieces, great nephews, and close friends.

Joe was preceded in death by three siblings, Jean Stephenson, Bertie Smith, and Gary Armstrong, three nephews, Robin Stephenson, Cecil Stephenson, and Scott Hiatt, and a great-nephew, Nicholas Hiatt; and a brother-in-law, Fred Hiatt.

A funeral service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veteran’s of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Tuesday, at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel.
