We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Yorktown Chapel
Emily Anne (McKeever) Sears, 79, passed away on Thursday evening, May 19, 2022, at home, holding her husband’s hand. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Emily was born on April 29, 1943, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Joseph E. and Thelma (Miller) McKeever. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1961 and the Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. In the fall of 1962 she met her husband, Forrest, at a dance at Ball State University. They were married on August 16, 1964, at the Yorktown United Methodist Church.
She was a labor and delivery nurse at Community Hospital in Anderson for 16 years, but for 27 years, the nursing job that brought her the most joy was being a school nurse for Muncie Community Schools at Mitchell Elementary, where she considered it an honor to care for children and their families and to work alongside teachers and staff. For 21 years she and her husband were pastors at Cammack United Methodist Church where she loved serving and teaching her dear friends in the congregation.
If Emily knew you, she loved you and showed it through sending cards and giving big hugs. She also loved feeding her friends and family, bus trips with her husband, Bible study, helping others, and attending the sporting events and musical performances of her grandchildren. In her final months she rediscovered her love of sewing through making a quilt with her daughter.
Emily is survived by her husband of 58 years, Forrest “Woody” Sears; their daughter, Nanci Sears Perry (Kirk); their son, Aaron Sears; eight grandchildren–Lydia, Nathaniel, John and Julia Perry and Jenna, Sasha, Margaret and Michael Sears; sister-in-law, Rebecca Sears Monroe; brother-in-law, Kim Sears; nieces and nephews–Joel McKeever, Edith McKeever, Sara McKeever Anderson, Bruce Monroe, Anita Monroe Stewart, Darren Monroe, Heidi Monroe and Corey Sears; and several very special cousins, great nieces and nephews, extended family, students, neighbors, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Joseph W. McKeever; and nephew, Joshua Sears.
A celebration of Emily’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 27, at the Yorktown United Methodist Church, 2301 S. Broadway, with Pastor Kate Muhlbier officiating. Burial at Hawk Cemetery to follow. Calling hours are at the church on Thursday, May 26, from 3:00-7:00pm.
