Floyd L. Doughty Sr., 96, of Yorktown, passed away on March 22, 2023, at his home in rural Yorktown.
Floyd was born on December 31, 1925, in Muncie to the late George and Hazel Doughty. Floyd attended Harrison Township School. Floyd joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and was part of the invasion of Okinawa in WWII. Floyd retired from Chevrolet New Venture Gear in 1986, after 23 years as a pipefitter. He was a lifelong farmer and had also worked for 12 years at Richman-Prillman Funeral Home. Floyd was a member of the American Legion Post 321, AM-VETS Post 12, VFW Post 651, 40&8 Post 955, and the UAW #499. He also served on the Delaware County Veteran’s Honor Guard for 12 years. Floyd was a private pilot. He loved to fly and enjoyed fishing.
Floyd is survived by two sons, James Doughty (wife Sheila) and Floyd Doughty Jr. (wife Pam); a sister, Alta Renner; three brothers, William, Ferrell, and Jack Doughty; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Sarah Ellen (Dudley) Doughty; and seven siblings.
A funeral service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, March 25, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St., Yorktown. Pastor Michael Osborne will officiate. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
