Harold D. New

Harold D. New, 69, of Gaston, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Harold was born on August 9, 1952, in Pulaski County, Kentucky to the late Elmer and Edna (Wesley) New. Harold was a 1970 graduate of Wes-Del High School and attended Ball State University. Harold worked for Warner Gear for 32 years and had also spent time as a truck driver. He was a member of the UAW Local 287. Harold had been a little league coach in Gaston. He enjoyed drag racing and won many trophies. Harold also enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Judy (Janney) New; three children, Karena Hernandez (husband Raul), David New, and Harley New; three grandchildren, Paul Hernandez (wife Kelly), Maya Hernandez (fiancé Luke Gordon), and Miles New; three great-grandchildren, Niko, Samuel, and Jackson Hernandez; two sisters, Eva Koontz, and Sheila Gwaltney; a brother, Jerrold “Joe” New (wife Debbie), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by an infant brother, David New.

A funeral service to celebrate Harold’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston. Burial will follow at Thompson Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, on Tuesday at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Harold to a charity of the donor’s choice.
