James A. Jensma Sr., 75, of Yorktown, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Aperion Care of Kokomo following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jim was born July 6, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Nicolas and Thelma (Atwood) Jensma. He graduated in 1959 from Burris High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. Jim married Sandra Skinner on January 3, 1961. Jim was an auto body technician for over 50 years. He worked for Weidner Chevrolet for years, retiring in 2003. Jim was a member of Friends Memorial Church in Muncie. He was a craftsman of all trades and an award winning fabricator. He enjoyed building furniture and other wood working along with restoring cars.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra Jensma; two children, James A. Jensma Jr. (wife Angela) and Lisa Barber; three granddaughters, Heather, Katherine, and Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Login, Adalynn, and Kaedyn; and a sister, Janie Noe.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Rusty Clements will officiate. Burial of Jim’s ashes will follow at Hawk Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel.
