James R Morgan

James R. “Jim” Morgan, 84, of Cammack, departed this life on Monday, March 13, 2017 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He had been residing with his son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Andrea Morgan in Yorktown since his illness began.

Jim was born June 12, 1932 in Gaston, Indiana to the late Omer LeRoy and Esther Morgan. Upon graduating from Gaston High School in 1950, Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 42 years. Jim was a member of the Matthews Masonic Lodge #650, where he had served as a past Master Mason. He was also a member of the Shriner’s. Jim enjoyed college basketball and was an avid IU fan.

Jim is survived by two children, Anthony Morgan (wife Andrea) and Traci Waters (husband Steven); five grandchildren, Michael Haisley (wife Sarah), Chris Sloan (wife Angella), Alissa Owens (husband Justin), Dakotah Waters, and Amelya Waters; five great-grandchildren, Adriana Haisley, Ashton Haisley, Ashlynne Sloan, Jayden Sloan, and Vivian Owens; a sister, Jean Brown; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thanks to his caregiver; Juanita Adkins, during this difficult time.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Jean Morgan; two brothers, Bob and Charlie Morgan; and a sister, Dorothy LaMott.

A funeral service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 4:30 P.M. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown, Indiana. Pastor Norma West will officiate and the Matthews Masonic Lodge will conduct the Masonic Service. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 2:00 P.M. until 4:30 P.M. Thursday at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel.
