Kent Ross Obituary

Kent W Ross, 62, of Yorktown, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Kent was born on November 24, 1958, the first-born child of Al and Janice (Metzcar) Ross. He was a life-long resident of Yorktown, Indiana, where he graduated in 1977. A career grocer, Kent was well known and loved by all who came in and out of Ross Food Market, until moving on to Harvest Market where he was adored by his staff and coworkers. He was a proud member of the NRA, and Yorktown United. He enjoyed NASCAR and basketball, but his true love was classic rock. If you heard Kent listening to music, it was most certainly AC/DC. He shared that love with his family, including his grandchildren.

Kent is survived by his mother, Janice Ross; Daughter Stephanie (Ross) Oshier (Husband Lee); and his pride and joy, his six grandchildren, Brianna, Dylan, Will, Anna, Izzy, and Cale; two sisters, Kay Miller and Kim (Mark) Antrim; four cousins, Tammy Hendrickson (Mike), Sheryl Mahoney (Mike), Arlene Murphy (Gary), and Mike Metzcar (Sue). Kent had four nieces and nephews, Joe Ross (Jessica), Nathan Reed (Konnor), Cody Antrim (Miranda) and Kinzie Smith (Caleb), six great nieces and nephews, Gracie, Tyler, Kenzie, Caroline, Logan and Aiden, and was excited for his new great niece or nephew in January. Also surviving is Kent’s lifelong best friend, Shane Maxwell.

Kent was preceded in death by his father, Al Ross, brother-in-law, Mike Miller, and friend, Randy Hough.

There are many things the family wants to remember about Kent, most specifically that he was always the first one to come when you needed him. He took care of his family faithfully, especially his mom, whom he loved dearly. His grandchildren will always remember him with a fridge full of food ready for them to raid, never to be without cheese and cookies and his daughter and nephews will always credit their love for classic rock to Kent. He was loved by many and loved even more. His friends and co-workers at Harvest Market were family to him as well. There isn’t a person who knew Kent that didn’t have a story to tell about him, and he had a gift for sharing his. He will truly be missed.
