Lloyd K. Kem, 86, of Yorktown, passed away on September 17, 2022, surrounded by his family at his home in Salem, Indiana.
Lloyd was born on February 1, 1936, in Delaware County, Indiana to the late Daniel and Edna (Kilgore) Kem. He was a 1955 graduate of Yorktown High School. Lloyd worked for General Motors in Anderson and retired in 1994 after 30 years. He was a longtime member of Yorktown Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing guitar with his friends, and setting around bonfires telling stories to his kids and grandkids.
Lloyd is survived by a very special friend, Monta Williams; three daughters, Cynthia Speidel, Kathy Blanton (husband Tim), and Jama Hole (husband Jim); seven grandchildren, Angie Hoppe (Bill), Stephanie Benson (Ben), Michael Speidel (Brittney Garrett), Jessica Hoffer (Clayton Anderson), Brandon Blanton (Krisa), Julia Oliver (Tommy), and Daniel Blanton (Jordan); seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Kem (Miriam); sister, Rhonda Thomas (Jeff); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Jo Kem; two daughters, Debbie Crosley and Tammy Sue Kem; grandson, Nicholas Ray Blanton; and two sisters, Joyce Roberts and Vernice Kem.
A funeral service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Jeffrey Castetter will officiate. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, and also one hour prior to the funeral from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm on Thursday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Yorktown Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 10101 St. Rd. 32, Yorktown, IN 47396.
