Marvin Bartle, age 91, passed away in the early hours of Independence Day, July 4, 2022. One of twelve children, Marvin was born to Arthur George Bartle and Zina Elizabeth (Keys) Bartle on November 22, 1930. All parents and siblings have preceded him in death.
A lifelong Delaware County resident, Marvin served in the U.S. Army following high school graduation, and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from military service, he was an assembly worker at Borg-Warner for 47 years. For three decades of this time, he worked a second full-time job, building homes from the ground up as a carpenter, leaving these homes throughout Delaware and Henry Counties as lasting monuments to his hard-working nature.
Married to Alice (Loser) Bartle for 20 years, Marvin supported his family of six, which included three children from his wife’s former marriage, plus his daughter from his marriage to Alice. They lived on a family farm south of Muncie, where he continued to live until 2018. He has lived independently in Yorktown since that time.
Throughout life, Marvin was a mentor and friend to many, including neighboring farmers, most of whom he has outlived. In later years, his most gratifying and meaningful work was volunteering as a Group Facilitator at the Middletown Center for Chemical Dependency, inspiring and supporting others in their addiction recovery.
Although few whose lives have been deeply and positively influenced by Marvin survive him, for more than half a century he has been role model and real-life hero to his daughter, Zina Lee Bartle, who currently resides in Seguin, Texas, near San Antonio.
Final arrangements are being made by Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown. Upon Marvin’s request, he will be cremated, and no public calling hours will be held.
