Mary Jo Barker, 68, of Gaston, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
Mary Jo was born on March 17, 1954, in Muncie to Ferrell and Sonia Doughty. She was a 1972 graduate of Wes-Del High School. Mary Jo was a homemaker and had also worked at the Wes-Del High School Cafeteria and the Voter Registration Office. She was a member of the Women Democrats of Delaware County, Lazy Daisey Home-ec club, and the first female member of the Gaston Lions Club. Mary Jo was an avid bargain hunter who enjoyed rummage sales and collecting.
Mary Jo is survived by two sons, Scott Barker (wife Jodi) and Clint Barker (wife Amber); her father, Ferrell Doughty; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn Barker, Jeanna Barker, Janell Still (husband Ryan), Jerret Barker, Kyleigh Barker, Devon Bertram, and Bryanna Barker; four great-grandchildren; four siblings, Alta Kaye Meade, John Doughty, George Doughty, and Ron Doughty; best friend of over 40 years, Jane Hummel; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Larry Barker; her mother, Sonia Doughty; and a brother, Ferrell Doughty Jr.
A funeral service to celebrate Mary Jo’s life will be held at 10:00am Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Yorktown. Pastor Michael Osborne will officiate. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, November 11, 2022, and also one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel.
