Max E. Stump, 88, formerly of Gaston, passed away on Thursday morning, March 31, 2022, at his home in Muncie.
Max was born on April 17, 1933, in Muncie to the late Emery and Estel Stump. Max was a United States Army veteran serving as a mechanic in the Korean War. Max worked for the Muncie Sanitation Department for 26 years. He had also been a volunteer fireman on the Gaston Fire Dept. Max was a member of the Gaston American Legion. He enjoyed mowing and watching old westerns.
Max is survived by three sons, Tony Stump (wife Erin), James Stump (wife Trisha), and Chris Stump (wife Renee); five stepchildren, Dale Adams, William Adams, Rodney Adams, Melissa Richards (wife Christina), and Rodney Adams Jr.; a sister-in-law, Paula McGillis; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Stump; brother, Danny Stump; stepbrother, Dave Stump; and stepsister, Norma Robinson.
A funeral service to celebrate Max’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 4, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Monday at Gant Funeral Homes – Gaston Chapel.
