Maxine Gourley

Maxine Gourley, 93, of Gaston, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Community Hospital in Anderson, following a brief illness.

Maxine was born March 26, 1922 in Gaston, Indiana to the late Elmer and Ella Mae (Campbell) Gourley. She graduated from Gaston High School in 1940. She worked as a receptionist and set type at the Gaston Paper and later worked as an inside claim adjuster for Commercial Union Insurance Company for over 33 years. Maxine also prepared taxes for many clients out of her home for 46 years. Maxine was a member of Prairie Grove Church. She enjoyed reading the morning paper and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed working in her yard.

Maxine is survived by her sister, Betty Morgan of Mt. Vernon; two special nieces who helped care for her, Kelly Drumm (companion Johnnie Barnes) of Gaston and Marsha Purvis (husband Kenneth) of Muncie; five additional nieces and nephews, Linda Norris (husband Rick) of Pendleton, Mike Morgan of Leesville, LA, Francella “Frankie” Ring (husband John) of Hartsville, TN, Rex Gourley (wife Nancy) of Tennessee, and Timothy Drumm (wife Lisa Warner) of Muncie; several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by three siblings, Normadean Gourley, Max Gourley and wife, Helen, and Beverly Drumm and husband Charles; a brother-in-law, Earl Morgan; and a nephew, David Morgan.

A funeral service to celebrate Maxine’s life will be held at 12:00 P.M. Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston, IN. Pastor Joe Ruberg will officiate. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 16, 2016 and also one hour prior to service on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.

The family would like to thank the staff at Edgewater Woods, Community Hospice, and Community Hospital of Anderson for their care of Maxine.
