Norma “Jean” Warfel, 94, of Yorktown, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Yorktown Manor.
Jean was born on December 19, 1930, in Noblesville, Indiana to the late Oscar and Vergie Rushton. She married Elmer Warfel on September 1, 1950, and spent her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, and country music.
Jean is survived by two children, Bonnie Simpson (William) of Anderson and Robert Warfel of Yorktown; two grandchildren, Stephanie Chalfant of Muncie and Steven Tanner of Yorktown; four great-grandchildren, Austin Meinhardt (Mackenzie), Jayden Montgomery, Jaelyn Montgomery, and Bradyn Tanner; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Elmer Warfel; seven sisters, Ella Stokes, Geneva Hahn, Delores Renner, Glendora Hollis, Helen Gray, ClaraBelle Estep, and Vivian Rushton (infant); and three brothers, Frank, Earl, and Robert Rushton.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Paul Werling will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm on Saturday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Muncie Humane Society and Animal Shelter, 901 W. Riggin Rd., Muncie, IN 47303.
