R. Bruce McColm

R. Bruce McColm, 92, of Gaston, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at his home in rural Gaston.

Bruce was born on April 18, 1932, in Muncie, Indiana to the late Ralph and Grace McColm. He was a 1950 graduate of Harrison Township High School and went on to earn agricultural credits at Purdue University. Bruce proudly served in the United States Army. Bruce was involved in the Boy Scouts in his early life and was a past Scout Master. He married Bonnie Broyles on April 26, 1953. Bruce loved farming and his Shorthorn Cattle. He owned and operated IT-L-Do Products where he manufactured custom campers and ambulances. Later he dug and sold Pete moss for 30 years. He was a member of the Gaston Main Street Church where he served as a Trustee. He was also a member of Master Gardener’s. Bruce enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Bonnie McColm; five children, Alice Yvonne Skaggs, Thomas Ralph McColm (wife Linda), Nancy Janel Huffman, Rhonda Joyce Kelley (husband Michael), and Robert Daniel McColm (wife Jayne); 13 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Bruce was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Felicity Grace Johnson; and  two sons-in-law, Jerry Skaggs and Jeff Huffman.

A funeral service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Gaston Main Street Church, 105 N. Main St. in Gaston. Pastor Bill Bruneau will officiate. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Thursday at the Church.
