Ricky Joe Mathews, 73, of Yorktown, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
Rick was born on November 10, 1950, in Indianapolis to the late Nolan and Mary Mathews. He was a 1969 graduate of Yorktown High School. Rick was a lifelong salesman and businessman. Rick enjoyed Myrtle Beach, long walks, caring for his many pets, and maintaining his yard. His greatest joy was his wife and family.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cheryl Ann Mathews; two daughters, Kristie Wright (husband Terry) and Michelle Peterson; six grandchildren, Chelsie Keppler, Taylor Huffman, Nicklaus Visker (wife Jessica), Seth Wright, Elizabeth Peterson, and Matthew Peterson; two great-grandsons, Noah and Theo Huffman; and several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Terry Mathews; and a sister-in-law, Susie Mathews.
A funeral service to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Burial will follow in Yorktown Overmire Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Wednesday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
