Rita Jayne (Songer) Clock, 54, passed away at her home in rural Gaston following a courageous battle with cancer.
Rita was born November 10, 1961 in Muncie to Don and Norma (Hughes) Songer. She attended Delta High School and worked at various area restaurants. Rita attended the Gaston Church of the Nazarene.
Rita is survived by her parents, Don and Norma Songer; seven children, Doug Firestone (wife Kerri) of Muncie, Joe Clock of Gaston, Jason Clock (wife Susan) of Yorktown, Candy Elliott (significant other Frank Brindle) of Gaston, Joshua Clock of California, Jeremy Clock (wife Jamie) of Gaston, and Barbara Clock of Albany; grandmother, Dona “Granny” Roode of West Virginia; brother, Steve Songer (wife Denise) of Auburn; sister, Kay Oliver (husband Doug) of Yorktown; 15 grandchildren, including Noah Rains, Lucas Firestone, Uriah Clock, Jace Phillips, Myah Phillips, and Braxton Clock, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rita was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Louise Songer; and grandfather, Daniel Hughes.
A funeral service to celebrate Rita’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 13, 2015, at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel at 109 W. Elm St. in Gaston with Pastor Jerry Hobbick officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, November 12, 2015, and also one hour prior to service Friday at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Little Red Door or Riley Children’s Hospital.
