Robert Shull, 81, of Gaston, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, May 29, 2015, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.
Bob was born October 19, 1933 in Lynn, IN to the late Willard and Nancy Shull. He graduated from Harrison Township High School in 1951. He worked 25 years for the Indiana State Highway Department where he was a supervisor. Bob was a lifetime member of the Gaston American Legion Post 387. He enjoyed playing golf and visiting Hoosier Park with his friends Scooter and Lisa. Bob was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Bob is survived by four children, Janet Powers (husband Charlie), Doug Shull, Jody Shull, and Lisa Burns, all of Gaston, nine grandchildren, Anson, Arrick, Audra, Sara, Anna, Eddie, Hunter, Ryan, and Travis; 11 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Bill Shull (wife Marge) of West Islip, NY, Karen Clem (husband Larry) of Anderson, and Brice Shull of Ft. Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Tammy Wright, Katie Duncan, and the rest of the oncology staff at Ball Hospital. They would also like to thank Dr. Thomas Gibson for being not just a doctor, but a friend.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Shull; a brother, Reginald Shull; and a sister, Rose Ann Trego.
A funeral service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Gant Funeral Homes Gaston Chapel, 109 W. Elm St., Gaston, IN. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 1, 2015, and also from Noon until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Gant Funeral Homes, Gaston Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
