Roy Bales Jr., 90, of Muncie, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
Roy was born March 17, 1926 in Randolph County, Indiana to the late Leroy and Thelma (Dodson) Bales. He attended Stoney Creek Schools. Roy served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked as a baker while in the Navy. Roy worked as a machine operator at Borg Warner for 30 years before his retirement in 1978. Roy was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter. He was a Boy Scout Master in the 1960’s at Yorktown Christian Church. He enjoyed crafts and woodworking.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rosa E. (Stephen) Bales; three children, Shirley Applegate (husband Dave), Diana Bell (husband Rollie), and Jason Bales; four siblings, Bill Bales (wife Lois), Dick Bales (wife Sue), Edith Wood, and Ruth Miers; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Roy proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Bales; and a sister, Betty Botts.
A funeral service to celebrate Roy’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 11, 2016, at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown, IN. Pastor Rory Bond will officiate. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Monday at Gant Funeral Home, Yorktown Chapel.
