Ruby Louise Martin, 94, of Yorktown, passed gently away on Saturday, November 20, at Yorktown Manor.
Ruby was born on October 17, 1927, to the late Ray and Oakley Guinn. She was a 1945 graduate of Yorktown High School. On June 9, 1945, she married her sailor, Bert Martin. They had 68 years together before he passed away in 2013.
They raised their five children in Selma, before moving to Yorktown in their later years. They were Christian parents, who worked together to provide for the family. Ruby worked at Indiana Bell, Sears, and Ball State Bracken library from where she retired in 1991. She was involved in her children’s and community activities as a member of the Eastern Star, several home ec clubs, and as a Girl Scout leader. Her excellent cooking skills made her a popular volunteer cook for many groups. She and Bert were active in Habitat for Humanity, a square dance group, and the Muncie Area Campers. They committed their time and money to the various United Methodist Churches they attended, the last being the Yorktown UMC. Ruby enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue (John) Bennett of Lima, Ohio; two sons, Robert Martin and Doug (Shonet) Martin, both of Muncie; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Bennett, Karen (Nick) Schieltz, Jesse (Christopher) Daniel, Emily Scott, Randi Dieterman, and James Martin; brother Don (Judi) Guinn; sister-in-law, Carol Ward; 10 great grandchildren, Caity Daniel, Carter Daniel, Jacob Schieltz, Jamie Schieltz, Averey Klooze, Ashlin Klooze, Piper Dieterman, Sydney Dieterman, and Mia Dieterman, and Demaris Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
