Sammy Joe Clevenger, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his home in Cammack.
Sammy was born November 26, 1946 in Muncie to the late Samuel C. and Doris Mae (Ertle) Clevenger. He graduated from Harrison Township High School in 1966. Sammy was a United States Army Veteran where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of Clevenger’s Yorktown Autobody. He had also worked for several area bodyshops over the years. Sammy was a member of the Cammack American Legion. He was an avid race fan and had raced mini sprint cars. He was also a lifelong crew member of RTR Motorsports with Rick Turner. Sammy enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Sammy is survived by his fiancé, Donna Daugherty of Cammack; five children, Nicole Prose (husband Chris) of Reed Station, Chad S. Clevenger (girlfriend Kelly Gant) of Yorktown, Mike Daugherty (wife Deborah) of Yorktown, Angie Covington of Cammack, and Jessica Daugherty (fiancé Steve Mullen) of Yorktown; four siblings, Bruce Clevenger (wife Linda) of Spokane, WA, Gary Clevenger (wife Betty) of Muncie, Mike Clevenger of Muncie, and Danny Clevenger of Muncie; 13 grandchildren, Zachary and Dillon Rucker, Morgan, Tyler and Nathan Prose, Austin, Shelby, and Chandler Clevenger, Gracie and Grant Daugherty, McKenzie Daugherty, Mason Graham, and Lilianna Mullen; best friends, Rick Turner and Dr. Jonathan Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by a sister, Marsha Clevenger; and a brother, Robert Clevenger.
A funeral service to celebrate Sammy’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown, Indiana. Pastor Ty Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to aid in funeral expenses in care of his daughter, Nicole Prose.
