Sheila J. (Woodings) Abernathy

Sheila J. Abernathy, 82, of Yorktown, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Sheila was born on April 20, 1934 in England to the late Edward and Joyce Woodings. Sheila was raised in England and moved to the US at the age of 17. Sheila retired in 1984 from First Merchants Bank Data Center. She attended Old Town Hill Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing cards and games.

Sheila is survived by her husband 61 years, Robert L. Abernathy; three children, Michael D. Abernathy of Muncie; Christine J. Clevenger (husband Mike) of Yorktown, and David J. Abernathy of Yorktown; four grandchildren, Matthew Abernathy (wife Tiffany), Nicole C. Good (husband Charles), Julianne K. Combs (husband Ryan) and Sarah M. Clevenger (fiancé Brandon Price); five great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Brenner.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A memorial service to celebrate Sheila’s life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Old Town Hill Southern Baptist Church, 3000 S. Burlington Dr. in Muncie, IN. Pastor Bruce Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Hawk Cemetery at a later date.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Old Town Hill Southern Baptist Church.
