Zelma Bennett Obituary

Zelma A. Bennett, 83, of Gaston, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022,on her late husband’s birthday, at Alexandria Care Center.

 

Zelma was born on April 17, 1939, in Brookville, Indiana to the late Ora and Chloe (Seal) McCracken. Zelma graduated from Brookville High School. Zelma was a homemaker and had served as the Clerk of Gaston. She was a member of the Gaston United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Zelma enjoyed quilting, flowers, shopping, traveling, and her trips to Las Vegas.

 

Zelma is survived by four children, Lynette Kelley (Mark Bush) of Daleville, Marcia Heinzen of Matthews, Brent Kelley of Gaston, and Troy Kelley of Gaston; five grandchildren, Sarah Heinzen, Stephanie Walpole (Brad), Chad Robbins (Gregory Gilmore), Garrett Kelley (Kayla), and Sean Kelley; five great-grandchildren, Megan Neal, Laynie Walpole, Brenlee Walpole, Harper Harmon, and Avery Harmon; and a son-in-law, Justin Harmon.

 

Zelma was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carroll Bennett; granddaughter, Kayla Harmon; and four siblings.

 

A funeral service to celebrate Zelma’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Gaston United Methodist Church, 105 Main St., in Gaston. Pastor John Long will officiate. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery.

 

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday, at Gaston United Methodist Church.
