Zelmeda Dearing, 98, of Muncie, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Albany Health & Rehab center.
Zelmeda was born on May 4, 1924, in Muncie to the late Von and Hazel Stephenson. She was a 1942 graduate of Yorktown High School. Zelmeda was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cammack United Methodist Church where she taught Bible study for over 50 years and enjoyed giving hugs as the door greater. Zelmeda was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, and her church. She also enjoyed sewing.
Zelmeda is survived by two children, Diana Bellemore (Jim Whitford) and Steven Dearing; eight grandchildren, Deborah Bellemore (Mark Overbeck), Anginette Dearing (James Doughty), Jason Dearing (Angie), Adam Dearing (Bonnie Krueger-Dearing), Bronwen Dearing, Rachael-Grace Sands, Alexander Sands (Nicole), and Nick Sands (Tiffany); nine great-grandchildren, Chloe, Christopher, and Emma-Mae Newman, Jayden and Tanner Dearing, Madison and Mariah Townsend, Shayna Olsen, and Henry Krueger; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister, Leah Ritchie (Bill); daughter-in-law, Alison Dearing; four special nieces, Avonna White, Teresa Deeds, Marsha Day, and Deborah Reece; and several other nieces and nephews.
Zelmeda was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, 4 months, and 3 days, Ervin Dearing; a son, Charles “Chuck” Dearing; five brothers, John, Harry, Ora, George, and Dale Stephenson; and two sisters, Janice Miles and Anna Johnson.
A funeral service to celebrate Zelmeda’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 11, 2022, at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel, 2215 S. Broadway St. in Yorktown. Pastor Linda McBride will officiate. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday at Gant Funeral Homes – Yorktown Chapel.
